Representative of cyclical, often turbulent, cosmologies variations on the theme of the self-consuming serpent are shared by many cultures. A stylish spiral, this serpent design is inspired by Norse mythology. The Midgard Serpent, named Jormungand by the Vikings, was believed to encircle the physical world of men. Biting his own tail, his coils held the bowl of the ocean in place. When the snake became restless below so did the seas above.
